The Wells School Apartments consists of a historic conversion of the former Mary E. Wells Junior High School.
Originally built in 1916 as South Bridge MA’s first public high school, the building eventually transitioned to serve as a junior high school during the 1960s. What were once classrooms are now one and two-bedroom apartments, coupled with modern amenity spaces to serve residents age 55 and older. This 14-month project saw several challenges including the importance of preserving the historical aspects of the former school while also constructing a desirable 62 apartment community. Many aspects on the building’s exterior and interior have been carefully reviewed and constructed to match what was originally in place over 100 years ago.
